Twitter is a social media site that allows people to send and receive instant messages at a tap of a button.

Twitter has been out on the market for about 4 years and is wildly popular with younger people under the age of 30. Not only can does it just send messages, but photos, URL links, Vines, and almost any sort of electronic page that you could think of.

Twitter, tweet, posting are all words that come form the  most used social media source. Twitter, it is a site that has revolutionized the way humans share information with one another.

Within seconds, one person can share to all of his/her followers and they can repost if for all of their followers and so on which makes it faster than the 6 o’clock news.

“It has influenced the change of our modern life as we know it,” says Freshman Mason Defore “It is used to tell our friends everything about the upcoming test, to the top stories that the news will cover later that night.”

A common misconception is that only students and young people use Twitter. But some schools have teachers that have used this form of social media to their advantage.

A southwest coach and teacher, Cody Parks  uses it as a way to remind his students about upcoming assignments, inform the team about events, and updates for sports, he said  “boy does it work.”

“It is as influential to us as doing class work,” sophomore Jake Wilson said. “And now that we have smart phones with us at all times, it makes it possible to report it, as we see it happening right in front of us.”

Social Media  has never been used at the scale of Twitter, which has about 645,750,000 different user accounts that send over 9,100 tweets a second.
