Senior Stress
Applying to colleges, writing college applications, taking SAT/ACT tests, keeping GPA’s up their senior year; these are all things that are stressing out seniors. Three seniors are getting ready to send in their college applications to apply to college. The ACT’S and SAT’S are stressing some people out ,but it makes them more and more excited for college. Some people are worried about money situations and how they will be able to pay for college tuition .This makes it really hard for some people and causes major stress for some seniors.
These seniors Alex Peuser, Lauren Zahner, and Caroline Fronczak are applying to their favorite colleges. There are many stresses when it comes to applying to college. All that stress leads up to the day when they get that letter in the mail telling them if they made it into the college of their choice . That moment makes all the stress worthwhile.
When asked what his biggest stress senior year is, Peuser said “Remaining focused in school when I definetly don’t need to be because I have all of my credits.”
The other seniors interviewed are definitely worried about their GPA. It is really hard remaining focused when all you want to think about is being in college and having fun. “My main stressor this year has to be my grades. I so badly want to slack off , but at the same time I need those grades to keep my GPA up,” Zahner said.
For those students applying to out of state colleges, the stress goes up. When asked what her main stressor is, Caroline Fronczak said, “Definetly college applications, it’s especially stressful since all of the colleges I’m applying to are out of state, so it requires extra components like essays and personal statements that in state colleges don’t require.”
Most seniors take the ACT/SAT around three to four times throughout their senior year. If they get a good enough score the first few times they take it, their stress level can really go down. However, those that don’t get a good enough score, they have to keep testing until they get the score they need.
Money can also stress out some students. “Although I do have my favorite college, I have to understand that I am the second child of three , and money is an issue. So if I can’t go to my top pick college, I will have to chose one that will give me the most money,” Zahner said.
“Stress senior year is difficult for some students, but in the end, it helps these students grow up. Managing this stress, helps seniors get to the place in their lives where they can be better prepared to navigate the stresses of college,” said teacher Jaime Oswald.
Preparing for college gives seniors a lot of stress. Different seniors have different stresses; some are worried about money, some are worried about getting into their favorite college, and some are worried about getting the scores they need to get accepted.
It has also been said that senior year goes by too fast. Balancing the stress, along with enjoying their senior year is so important. “With the pressure to do well and take a rigorous schedule ,it’s still important to enjoy senior year,” Fronczak said.
