FCA marches on
Fellowship of Christian Athletes, also known as FCA, meets every week in order to build relationships with students around them through God.
Led by a new speaker each week, FCA is a popular club for those hoping to get involved with school and become closer to God.
FCA leader, junior Charlotte Davis said “knowing that there are other people in our school who share the same beliefs as me,” is her favorite part of FCA.
Students build friendships, but not in the average public school setting. They get to sit down and worship with those who believe in the same higher power as they do. They do this with their school peers which is a way to build a support system in school.
“It’s good to have it at school because then you get to build relationships but in a different way,” said Andrea Hopkins of Church of the Resurrection. “It’s also a nice way to start the day off.”
FCA meets every Wednesday morning at 7:10 in the fixed forum. It also have other events and clubs connected with it such as the prayer group which meets every friday morning at 7:10 in the Senior flex space and the Fields of Faith event later this fall.
Many students go to FCA as an outlet when church isn’t always an easy option. It is a place to worship each week with people you know.
“I love being in an environment where I know I can grow in my faith,” sophomore Maddie Allen said.
Even though it is called the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, it is not necessary to be an athlete to join.
Maggie Gore began FCA at Southwest in the room of teacher Layne Funk. Since then, it has expanded greatly and was moved to the fixed forum where it is currently held each week.
“The club has really grown,” sophomore Mikayla Murphy said. “It really impacts the people that attend.”
