The voices
The society we live in is constantly changing and evolving and controversy is at every corner but as we sit in class discussing these current issues, fads, or other occurrences that we observe daily in school, the discussion never seems to leave the room. We listen to the nightly news only to hear the opinion of a professional yet our opinion is silenced because we’re teenagers and we don’t get a say in those things.
Whether you’ve been in high school for barely a week or you’re going on your fourth year of this nonsense, we’ve all experienced a time when our opinion seems obsolete. Opinions ranging from our thoughts toward a school issue, or a recent current event that’s got everybody picking sides, there’s rarely an opportunity for a high school student to speak out about what’s bothering them.
Maybe it’s because what’s said in a high school hallway isn’t as important, but it affects all of us considering we spend five days a week here.
Therefore, each week I will listen to see what current struggle is plaguing the Southwest community and report on it.
It may not be the nightly news special you were hoping for, but it’s a start. A start to make our voices heard and although it may be a small crack of a voice, maybe one day our “childish” opinion will spark a discussion to change the world.
