T-Wolves basketball opens season with a win
The BVSW boys basketball team opened their season in dramatic fashion Friday night.
Junior ER Steffy drilled a 24 foot three-pointer as time expired to give the Timberwolves their first win on the season over Shawnee Mission North. Pandemonium ensued in the BVSW main gym as the players dog-piled Steffy after his shot in the clutch ,as the student section celebrated ferociously in the aftermath of the contest.
Sophomore Matt Wilkinson led the way in scoring for the T-Wolves, dropping 22 points by way of 5 three-pointers. Steffy , scored 13 points, and Junior Sam Randall added 8.
Senior Scott Johnson had 14 points and was the leading scorer for the visiting Shawnee Mission North Indians.
The 4th quarter started with the T-Wolves leading by a slim margin of one point. The Indians pulled ahead midway through the final quarter and gained the lead. The T-Wolves benefited from a crucial turnover by the Indians in the final minute of the game, when a traveling violation was called on the visitors.
The T-Wolves took advantage of the mistake.
With 6 seconds left and the game tied at 62, the home team inbounded the ball.Steffy took the dribble drive handoff from the point guard and knocked down the open look.
65-62. Game over.
BVSW improves to 1-0 on the year.
