The Timberwolves girls soccer team has had a opponent-crushing first few weeks. The team kicked off its first-ever season on March 28 with a game against the Topeka West Chargers. The varsity team dominated the first half and sealed the win with a score of 8-0, while the junior varsity team stomped out the competition with a final score of 10-0.
“It was a great win, knowing we had never played a game together,” junior varsity freshman Camila Mercado said. “I feel like we moved the ball around well and played as a team.”
The varsity and JV teams played the next day to win against Basehor-Linwood, with yet again, another dominating score of 10-0 for both teams. The varsity girls played solo against Kansas City Christian for their third win. KCC, not able to bring down the T-Wolves, lost with a score of 8-0.
C-team kicked off its season April 4 with a 10-0 win against the Bishop Miege Stags, and both the varsity and junior varsity teams defeated the Stags, bringing home a three-team win. Varsity won 7-0 and JV won 8-0.
On April 7, the team took on one of the school’s hardest-hitting rivals, the Blue Valley Tigers. The varsity T-Wolves went all out for the win, cutting it close with a final score of 1-0.
“It was a surreal experience when we won — it felt like we had broken down all the stereotypes about new schools,” varsity player junior Holly Weddle said. “It felt like we had an impact and a statement.”
The highly-anticipated game against the Blue Valley West Jaguars on April 11 had the team pumped to break another stereotypical barrier.
“It was exciting, and I was looking forward to it,” varsity freshman Amanda Creason said. “I had some nerves, but I had to trust in my team and just go out and play hard.”
The C-team brought home a 1-0 win against BVW, while the varsity girls faced a crushing first loss with a score of 3-0. The JV team cut it close with a 2-4 loss.
“We are working hard and a chance to add to that total [the record] in the coming weeks,” head coach Jason Pendleton said.
The girls are preparing for their next game against the Topeka Seaman Vikings, JV playing at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 9 away and varsity playing at 6:15 p.m. at home.
