The girls swimming and diving team is coming together as a team by going to vigorous practices in order to get themselves ready for the season.
Coach Arvel McElroy has a lot of confidence in the team and believes the girls will do well in their meets.
“We are one of the better EKL teams,” he said. “We have many of the swimmers who led the Blue Valley West team last year, including several who set school records there.”
Sophomore diver Samantha Murry has a big goal for herself, and thinks the team is going to do well.
“I want to get 11 dives to qualify for state,” she said. “The team is going to be impressive.”
McElroy puts the girls through 6,000 yards of swimming, drillwork and kicking.
“The training sessions are adapted daily to meet the needs of the swimmers as a whole team, and the swimmers as individuals,” he said.
McElroy thinks the toughest competition will be from Blue Valley North, Northwest and West.
“As far as State is concerned, we are in a different class from all of the other BV schools, except Blue Valley High,” he said. “We do have Meige and Aquinas in our state classification, and they always seem to have several strong swimmers on their teams.”
