Baseball coach Rick Sabath is trying to prepare his team to be in a successful position. “They have been working hard in the off-season,” Sabath said. “We have prepared ourselves by lifting and running for the last month.”
Senior Jackson Rowe thinks the toughest part is going to be good team bonding.
“None of us have been together that much and we have to loosen up and come together as a team,” he said. “We need to work on meshing together.”
Sabath knows the EKL has a lot of talent; however, he is ready to play.
“They’re all faceless opponents,” he said. “We are the ones who control our actions, thoughts and how we play.”
There are not very many varsity athletes, but Rowe still has confidence in the team.
“We are very young, but we’ve got leadership and look to have some talent and a good work ethic,” he said.
Another struggle for the team is getting all of the equipment.
“Starting a new program has numerous challenges,” Sabath said. “We have to order equipment, get to know facilities and develop a mindset that we want to be successful.”
The varsity team hits the dirt on March 29 at 5 p.m. against BVW at home.
