"Bombs Away" is teeming with fun, energetic songs

Sheppard, an Australian Indie-Pop band, is coming up from down under playing tracks that are sure to become summer’s newest hits.

Kicking off the band’s debut album, Bombs Away (released in the US on Mar. 10) is the single “Geronimo.” With its infectious beat and catchy chorus, “Geronimo” is worthy of the attention it has been getting internationally, as well as perfectly showcases the band’s ability to pair unique storytelling with fun tunes.

As the album rolls into the next two tracks, “Something’s Missing” and “Let Me Down Easy,” it becomes pretty clear that the band wanted to develop a theme on the album of getting back on your feet after being pushed down.  Between the harmonies of lead vocalists and siblings George and Amy Sheppard, and the positive spin each song puts on difficulties such as breakups or skepticism from others, Bombs Away is highly reminiscent of bands such as American Authors and The Mowgli’s.

While not every song seems destined to be a hit, Bombs Away encompasses a wide range of attitudes and sounds. The vocals in “This Electric Feeling” are female led and provide a much needed dose of sass to the album. Meanwhile, “Find Someone” is certainly more aggressive than any other track but is cathartic in its expression of anger and betrayal.

But for anyone still having doubts about the strength of this album, they are all dismissed upon hearing the final track, “Halfway to Hell.” This final song wraps up this album on just as strong a note as “Geronimo” started it. With the twanging guitar that begins the song as well as Amy Sheppard’s soaring high notes, the song starts with a sense of unease that eventually develops into a dramatic melody that makes Bombs Away worth a listen.
