Big Hero 6 movie review

The main characters of Big Hero 6 huddle around in this promotion picture.

Big Hero 6 is Disney’s latest movie, which as we all have come to understand as, Disney’s next greatest hit. Walking into Big Hero 6, many people were excited as they had been seeing the concept art online for months in advance and were loving the idea of two of the most exciting cities, San Francisco and Tokyo, being combined into one. Big Hero 6 was extremely touching and inspired emotions, in order to not to tear up in that movie some people may have to punch a wall quietly. Why do the best characters have to die? Ok, ok, for the sake of the story, but why him? A rhetorical question, we know the answer, and yet the bite still burns.

Watching Hiro experience grief after a major death in his family was a low and sad blow, even though we all saw it coming. The other main characters of Big Hero 6 are Honey Lemon, Gogo Tomago, Wasabi, and Fred. Each character is well developed and plays an important part in the role of the film. The best part about this group was the diversity and stereotype bashing. Take Honey Lemon for example. Honey Lemon is girly, loves fashion, selfies and pink. Does Honey Lemon also kick booty in a skirt, while using her purse to hide her explosives that she herself created (as she is super smart chemist as well as a blonde)? Yes, yes Honey Lemon does. Gogo also talks about girl power, which is freaking awesome for little girls to hear. Disney has been doing a really good job lately of showing that both guys and gals rock socks off.

Another thing super amazing about this movie was that all of the characters were nerds. Every single main character a full on, bona fide, nerd-nerd-nerdy pants with brains for days about different things, and while they were nerds they were awesome because smart is cool. This movie shows kids that having a brain and using it isn’t lame; it’s actually super awesome and leads to cool new stuff like technology and making the world a better and more fun place.

Basically, Big Hero 6 is a great movie with great representation and a great message, while telling a well-written story that makes your friends and you cry. Don’t forget Fall out Boy and many other talented artists doing their thing in the background, and the beautiful animation with detailed scenery reminiscent of Studio Ghibli films. You go, Disney. We are satisfied with our care.
