Repertory theatre is putting on their first show of the season, “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” under the direction of senior Shia Schrock. Schrock has been part of theatre since she was in elementary school and said it was different to be directing because she can’t just focus on herself.
“You have to know every single part like the back of your hand,” Schrock said. “There has to be some extra passion behind it because you have to love the whole project, not just a character in order to really create something that’s worth performing.”
Junior Ella Baucom plays Snoopy and said her song, “Suppertime,” was the most fun to learn while also being the most difficult.
“It’s me singing and dancing about how it’s time for me to have my food and it’s really fun,” Baucom said. “I do have to tap dance a little bit and I have never tap danced before. I had to learn a couple little moves, so that was tricky.”
The cast has spent a lot of time together, rehearsing during and after school.
“Everyone in the cast is so sweet and so talented and I have enjoyed the time together.” Baucom said.
The show will be performed on Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. and Oct. 19 at 2 p.m and 6:30 p.m. in the Black Box. Tickets are $10 and are available online or at the door.
“I would describe [the show] as pretty chaotic and childish, obviously, because they’re young,” Schrock said. “It is a series of short moments from pretty much any Charlie Brown comic or short or special that you’ve seen all thrown into one.”
