The first football game of the year is tonight marking the beginning of “Friday Night Lights.” From the people in the stands to the players and dancers on the field, all look forward to this night. Now, the wait is over.
Two of the many people who help create the hype around these nights are junior Alana Lewis who is a member of the Glitter Girls and senior Liam Huddleston, a defensive lineman for the football team. Both Lewis and Huddleston share the excitement the crowd feels, just from a unique perspective.
“I think the most exciting thing for me would be getting to perform as a team,” Lewis said. “It’s super fun to get to hype up the crowd and feel their energy.”
Before the Glitter Girls, cheerleaders, band members or football players are ready for the night ahead, they go through their pre-game routines. Huddleston said he appreciates the time spent in the locker room with his teammates in preparation for the game ahead.
“Before the game, there’s a lot of music going on and everybody’s getting pretty excited,” Huddleston said. “There’s a moment of silence right before you walk out the door to just take some time and get your mind ready and I really like that.”
Win or lose, football games allow for students to come together and cheer for one another.
“Football is a good chance for us to enjoy what we do and enjoy getting to be part of the school community,” Lewis said.
