Many at Blue Valley Southwest can barely wait for summer. For nine months, students have been overloaded with tests, quizzes, projects and assignments. With nine weeks of fun, friends and sun just days away, eyes are turning away from the papers and more to the windows, where amazing weather and freedom beckons.
At the end of those nine weeks, the students will return to BVSW, either anticipating or agonizing the beginning of a new school year. The graduated senior class however, doesn’t have that pleasure (or misfortune). They are eagerly looking to the horizon, a summer filled with friends and fun before starting a new beginning in college. Many graduated students plan to spend their summer working, hanging with friends, or maybe a mixture of both.
Having received their high school diploma, many graduates look forward to having fun before they go to college to work towards a career. Trips to the lake, vacations, and friends are all on the schedule.
“This summer I’m planning on working, going backpacking in Europe, training for football next year and hanging out with my friends,” graduate Kyle Pepper said.
With college approaching, many former students have begun searching for jobs to earn money. Students everywhere are submitting applications, trying to score a job at their preferred workplace.
“I expect to be busy working at a law firm, taking Calc 2 at JCCC (Johnson County Community College),” former student Zack Rosenkranz said.
With many graduates looking for jobs, it has made it hard for former students to hang out during the day. Preparing for the future has left many students without time to spend.
“Usually we’d have summer weights and then hang out the rest of the day but now everyone works all day,” Pepper said.
The amount of fun to be enjoyed this summer will differ for every senior. Some will enjoy their perhaps last few months with their friends. Others, will throw themselves into financially preparing for their future. Many will desperately try to balance between the two. Regardless of how the summer is spent, come fall, all BVSW graduates will be at their university, working toward their future.
