Even on a dismal Saturday the farmers market is sure to be open. On May 4 all the local vendors were at 7950 Marty Street bundled up from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. As soon as I walked under the roof a plethora of aromas filled my nose. From bread to beef, you can find anything at the farmers market.
Even though it is rather out of the way to drive down to 79th and Marty, it is well worth it.
“When you buy from the farmers market the money stays in the area,” said vendor Ryan Eddinger, who owns Two Sisters Farm in Lawrence. “The majority of income from produce bought at stores goes straight to the owners of farms or big businesses.”
As I walked around all of the vendors had signs saying where they were from and what their prices were. The prices were all reasonable, especially for what you are buying, on the vegetables, meats and dairy products. Most of the produce being sold was pesticide-free, which means you aren’t ingesting any harmful chemicals.
The Farmer’s Market is 7 a.m. each Saturday at 79th and Marty Streets.
