Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: This is my sixteenth year teaching.
Q: What brought you to Southwest?
A: I wanted to get back into high school to teach art because my previous three years I was in Lakewood Middle School.
Q: What do you like about teaching at Southwest?
A: I like the faculty, the administration and the students. Both of my kids graduated from this school so I was familiar with the school long before I started teaching here.
Q: What are you looking forward to this year?
A: I am looking forward to making connections with kids, and learning about them. One of the things I enjoy about teaching art is I get to see students multiple years and watch them grow their skills in art.
Q: What college did you attend?
A: I have attended three different colleges. I started out at JCCC out of high school, then I went and got my teaching certificate and my bachelor’s degree at UMKC. Then, just last year, I went to Emporia State and got my master’s degree.
Q: Why did you choose to be an art teacher?
A: I love doing art, I love the variety of it. I’m doing digital imaging, ceramics and art fundamentals so I get to teach students a lot of different styles of art. It just gives me an opportunity to do what I love to do, which is create art, and also teach students how to do it better as well.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you?
A: A fun fact about me is that I have a twin sister.
