Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: I have been teaching for five years. I taught Earth Science and Biology in South Dakota, and this is my first time teaching biology classes here.
Q: What brought you to Southwest?
A: What brought me to Kansas City in general is my girlfriend’s job brought her here, and what brought me to Southwest is looking for schools where both their students and families care about their education.
Q: What do you like about teaching at Southwest?
A: What I like teaching about Southwest is the students seem happy to be in the building. It’s hard to come to school, so the students might not always be super excited to be here, but at the end of the day the students are happy to be in a building with teachers that care for them in a place where they can learn about the world around them.
Q: What’s a fun fact about you?
A: I like to scuba dive and surf in the ocean.
Q: What are you looking forward to this year?
A: I’m looking forward to a lot of the field biology work that we’re doing, including planting a pollinator garden that will hopefully be put on the campus in the spring.
Q: Why did you choose to teach science?
A: I grew up loving gardening and scuba diving, and just being outside in nature. And that led me to be naturally curious about biology.
Q: What college did you attend?
A: South Dakota State University
