Meet our new staffers
This semester The Standard welcomed five new staffers.
Q: What’s your name?
A: Peyton Moore
Q: Why did you decide to join Newspaper?
A: I joined Newspaper because I heard it was a lot of fun and I was recommended by my good friend Elianna. I’ve always been interested in writing and photography and how a lot of news story come to be.
Q: Why do you think Newspaper and Journalism are important?
A: I think it’s important, specifically at Blue Valley Southwest, because people are very different and they also have their own stories and their own things that they’re interested in. I think it’s cool to read about it and be able to get the information out there.
Q: What are you excited for this semester?
A: I’m excited to learn the whole process of Newspaper and actually find out if I like it. I’d like to consider this as an experiment with weather I want to pursue this as a profession, so I’m excited to find out what it’s really like and what actually goes behind making stories and the design.
Q: Why do you think people should join Newspaper?
A: I think people should join Newspaper just because writing is something you’ll always have to do no matter what profession you have. I think having a good background on how things that you see everyday are made is important, even if it’s the news you see online, the same kind of process goes into that.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I’m from Overland Park, Kansas, repping the hometown.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to get large and workout. I like to watch Netflix and dance just for fun with speakers blaring just making a complete fool of myself.
Q: What is your current favorite song?
A: My current favorite song is probably Yacht Club by Little Yachty, I could listen to it about a thousand times and just not care you know?

A: Liam Olinger
Q: Why did you decide to join Newspaper?
A: I joined Newspaper so I could bond with my sister before she graduates. I also like the environment and using applications that I’ve learned from graphic design and putting those to use.
Q: Why do you think Newspaper and Journalism is important?
A: Newspaper is unique as in it’s made by students for students, so it brings out content in a consistent manner. It’s another different sense of quality compared to WolfByte. It’s a lot different, and I feel like there’s a great working environment in this class.
Q: What are you excited for this semester?
A: I’m excited for working with all these great people.
Q: Why do you think people should join Newspaper?
A: It’s a great environment and it’s a great way to use application you’ve been taught and apply them to real things, and there’s implications of legitimate deadlines and having real consequences.

A: I’m from Olathe, Kansas.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to play video games and I like to sleep and eat lots of food.

A: My current favorite song is Panic Attack by Dream Theater.

A: Jessica Bell
Q: Why did you decide to join Newspaper?
A: I’ve always really loved writing and being able to tell stories, and I like being able to have a voice and share it with the students at Southwest.
Q: Why do you think Newspaper and Journalism is important?
A: I think we all can learn and a lot of information can be spread. I think it’s really important because we all just focus on phones now and we don’t always know what’s going on, so when the Newspaper comes out we get that information.
Q: What are you excited for this semester?
A: I’m excited to get to choose what I want to share and getting to explore. I think I’ll learn a lot of new things so I’m excited.
Q: Why do you think people should join Newspaper?
A: It’s a great way to meet new people and it’s really fun. It’s a great time.

A: Joplin, Missouri
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to play softball and hangout with my friends and watch Netflix.

A: That’s hard, I don’t know — anything Justin Bieber, always.

A: Luke Hottovy
Q: Why did you decide to join Newspaper?
A: A lot of my friends were on it and I thought it would be fun.
Q: Why do you think Newspaper and Journalism is important?
A: Probably to keep up with current events as well as let students know what’s going on at their home school.
Q: What are you excited for this semester?
A: I’m excited to learn how to use Photoshop and Indesign more as well as learning what it actually takes to put something like a newspaper or yearbook together.
Q: Why do you think people should join Newspaper?
A: I think it’d be a great experience because a class like journalism or photoshop is kind of individual in the projects, whereas Newspaper would be collaborative.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and then we moved to Akron, Ohio when I was six and then we moved to Kansas when I was about 11.
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: I like reading, watching movies, playing music, listening to music, hanging out with friends, that’s about it.

A: Riders On The Storm by the Doors

Q: Why did you decide to join Newspaper?
A: I thought it’d be fun, and I heard a lot about how it was fun.
Q: Why do you think Newspaper and Journalism is important?
A: It’s important just so people can know what’s going on in the school, because not everyone knows about different events and stuff that is happening.
Q: What are you excited for this semester?
A: I’m excited to learn how you guys put the Newspaper together and how you guys can interview people and how it all flows together.
Q: Why do you think people should join Newspaper?
A: It’s fun and you get to learn a lot about the school.
