In Abaco, Bahamas there is a lot to do, the locals get to witness and experience the things that other people of the world can’t because not enough people go there as their choice of travel.
The Abacos is approximately a 120 mile long chain of islands, its water is the prettiest blue water in the world. The Bahamas was a British colony until Abaco stated their independence in 1787. Abaco is located just below Freeport which is about an hour of fly time to Abaco. It is one of the greatest place to be on a vacations because the lifestyle is so chill in the Bahamas.
The Bahamas is one place where people think to go, but not the island of Abaco. “Tourism rates are really low these days, it scares me because I rent out houses down here.” Homeowner Penny Williams stated.
In the Bahamas the main island people like to travel to is Nassau because there are a lot more resorts for people to stay at. The family islands on the other hand do not get as many tourists because they think more people will go to the island with the most hotels. In 2011 it was calculated that there were 16,000 residents living on the island of the Bahamas.
People go to places for the attractions, Abaco has one main attraction people most recognize it for, boating. “Boating is the main way of transportation here, people rent yachts, speedboats, dinghies, or sailboats. It’s easier to get around to the different islands here by boat, that’s the way the most of the locals get around.” Boat rental store owner Hank Smith explained.
The Bahamas had regained their independence from Britain in the 1970s, most of Abaco is made up of British residence, some living full time in Abaco, or the others who have two houses on the island.
Abacos profit is mostly made in the area of boat building, that is the main job to have in Abaco, boat building.
“I made boats before I retired, I had lived on the island Man O’War Cay, that is the main island for boat building.” Former boat builder Joe Albury stated.
There are different cities involved in the islands of the Bahamas. There is a lot to do in Abaco, it has the 3rd largest Great Barrier Reef in the world. Locals of Abaco say that they don’t get into the water until late June early July and stop swimming in August.“You haven’t seen The Abacos until you’ve seen in underwater. Thats the most beautiful part.” Real Estate agent Veronica Watson stated. “The waters down here are so blue, I do have a house in southern California but my favorite is down here because the water warmer and the people here are so much nicer.”
Abaco is a great place to travel, it allows people to go places other haven’t. You can travel by plain, or boat, the life style there is just an ideal way of living. And that is why people go there to relax and unwind.
“Abaco is my favorite place in the world, I come here twice a year and it never get old.” Smith stated.
