On Thursday May 23rd, the varsity baseball team will begin their fight to win the State tournament. With long, extensive practices and training drills, the wolfpack is working towards victory.
With a 13-9 season record, the team pulled through just when it mattered the most, making it to the State tournament. Head baseball coach Rick Sabath’s wants to gain the State title and to see incredible results while reaching the goal.
“Our hopes for the season are to have the best possible team we can that gets better every day,” Sabath said. “If we do that we will like the result.”
Sabath has been coaching the pack for three years and is ecstatic about have the State title right at his fingertips. He also plans to have the team achieve its full potential before the tournament begins and peeks to the end of the season as well.
“For this year, I want to establish that when BVSW takes the field we feel like we can be successful each game if we compete and believe in ourselves,” Sabath said.
With it being towards the end of the season, eleven seniors will be leaving the team and beginning their college careers. Sabath also remarks that next year will continue working toward bigger and more difficult goals with an impressive team of athletes.
“Next year, we hope to have another good team,” Sabath said. “We will have a lot of good players back and we expect to compete game in and game out.
Sabath and the team are expecting another victory this Thursday, 11 a.m. at Topeka Seamen. The wolfpack will be competing on Friday as well if they are able to successfully beat Topeka Seamen. These games are to be announced.
