How to stay active and involved in the community during the summer months.
Summer days spent lying on the couch with a bag of Cheetos on your lap are days wasted, especially when there are so many opportunities to be productive and active at one’s disposal. Living in Johnson County presents the opportunity to play sports such as soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball, golf and many more during the summer, allowing you to stay in shape and have fun.
Blue Valley Recreation holds summer camps including basketball, fencing, dodgeball, volleyball, lacrosse and much more. They provide sports for everyone from pre-school kids to elders, so everyone has a chance to be active and this summer. Another way to stay active is to create a rec team with your friends, whether it be softball or basketball. It’s a great way to stay connected with friends as well as to meet new people.
Summer is also the perfect time to try a new sport that you have always been interested in or curious about. There are new lacrosse leagues sprouting up, so take a chance to try something new. To find more information about trying a new sport this summer, visit www.bluevalleyrec.org
Being a buddy entails you to be a friend, coach and and helper. It challenges you to demonstrate respect and helps to develop friendships through being active. The YMCA of Greater Kansas City also offers summer sports, swimming classes and exercise classes. Another great way to ensure a rewarding summer is to be a Y Challenger Buddy at YMCA. Through Y Challenger Buddy, you are assigned a child or young adult with special needs and help them participate in healthy activities as well as help them grow as person and an athlete.
There are many ways to spend your summer, however it’s important to stay active and involved. There are many ways to participate in athletics in Johnson County as well as many ways to help those in need at the same time.
