A Mouscar is a vague object, with an even more obscure meaning. However, to the Emerald Regiment, this is a marker of how far they have come in only two years. The Emerald Regiment recently tested their medal as Disney World’s “Festival Disney”. In order to undertake such a great task the band had to reach their peak in order to perform like clockwork.
In order to reach their goal, the band needed a dedicated teacher who knew the band’s potential. Protzman set up morning rehearsals in the morning in order to prepare The Emerald Regiment for the competition. Of course the band has already achieved in excess being that it is only two years in the making.
“We scored really high for a band our size,” Band Director Edward Protzman said regarding the competitions the band has competed in. “We beat bands who were much bigger than us.”
Of course the members of the band have also put in a lot of effort into peaking their performance, growing closer as a band.
“I feel we’ve done well in competitions,” sophomore Band Member Jacob Lassman said. “We are close due to all the time we spend together.”
The Emerald Regiment ended up winning a Mouscar, or Disney Oscar, an award that Disney gives to its top employees.
“We had one concert performance, and then a march,” senior Andrew Fowler said. “It was a really good experience that I think everyone enjoyed.”
Throughout this year, the band has really gotten to know each other and grow closer as a group.
“We have a three hour meeting before the summer band camp where we get to see the people we know and the new people coming in,” sophomore Ian Dennin said. “We do team building games and joke around with each other and that helps people get to know each other.”
“My favorite moment of the year was band camp,” Protzman said. “It was great to see the older students and younger students work together.”
Competing at Disney World was the band’s biggest tournament, excluding the adjudication for state.
“We had a 20 minute march through the center of the Magic Kingdom, playing an excerpt from our show this year,” Dennin said. “We had a whole crowd of Disney World watching us on the crowded sidewalks.”
The Emerald Regiment no doubt has had quite a successful season, growing as a team numerically and emotionally. After their performance at Festival Disney world, the Emerald Regiment only needs to prepare for State, wrapping up its season. After tasting success, the Emerald Regiment is ready to go back to work to prepare for their next big competition.
