Basic Vacation Review

Basic Vacation Review

After sharing the stage with groups such as Owl City and New Politics, as well as getting compared to bands such as Foster the People and The Killers, it has become clear that the band Basic Vacation is on its way to greatness.

This indie-pop band finds its roots in New York City and Philadelphia and recently released a self-titled EP with their debut single “I Believe” along with four other tracks.

To be entirely honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this group at first. Before giving the EP a listen, I looked up the band online and found little more than the Facebook and Twitter page for information. A little more digging revealed music websites writing rave reviews, and once I had a listen, I understood why.

Basic Vacation’s music is certainly catchy in the way that makes me wish I immediately knew the lyrics to all of their songs so that I could sing along as I awkwardly dance alone in my bedroom. There’s another thing about their music: it makes you want to get up and stomp your feet to every chanting, uplifting song.

“I Believe” has been getting great amounts of positive feedback, and rightfully so, but I personally don’t think it is the shining star of the EP. My absolute favorite song has to be “Worlds Collide,” which I always find myself putting on repeat whenever I need a song to really get me pumped up. That being said, all of their songs are brilliant, even “Jamie,” which deals with darker subject matter than the rest of the tracks.

Assuming that they continue to keep making music of this quality, this band should certainly be on the right track to making it big. With a full length album expected later on this year, Basic Vacation is one band that I know I’ll be keeping my eye on.
