Catching Fire Movie Review
The hype for the movie Catching Fire began the minute the first movie of the series, The Hunger Games, stopped showing in theatres. After the nearly two year wait from the first movie, the second movie of the series, Catching Fire, came in theatres on Nov. 22.
The Hunger Games is the book series phenomenon created by Suzanne Collins. In the story, North America is now a country called Panem, which consists of 12 districts and the Capitol. The 12 districts work for the well being of The Captiol, which is filled with glitz and glamour. Every year, the Capitol forces a male and female representative in each district to participate in The Hunger Games. In The Hunger Games, the 24 tributes are placed in a wilderness arena and must fight to the death until one victor is remaining. The story is about the journey of a girl from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen, who must participate in The Hunger Games.
After reading all of the books in the series, Catching Fire was definitely my favorite book. Last night at midnight, I stood in line with all of the other Hunger Games-junkies anxiously awaiting the movie’s release.
This movie exceeded my expectations. I found myself on the edge of my seat eagerly watching actress Jennifer Lawrence (who played Katniss) as she played out every detail that I had painted in my head. The film was action-packed, yet sentimental. I cheered along with the rest of the theatre as Katniss outsmarted The Capitol’s leader, President Snow, and cried as tributes in The Games died. It definitely did the book its justice. Even if you haven’t read the book, it’s easy to follow along and worth seeing. Catching Fire was an outstanding movie and had the whole theatre broken out into a well-deserved applause.
