With only days left of school, many students only wish that they could be free of school, eager to enjoy a summer full of fun and friends. Stress from finals or AP tests causes many students to feel imprisoned and yearning for an escape from school into the free spirit of summer.
However, for many of the seniors graduating this year, the end of the school year signifies farewell. Class Day involves the recognition of the graduating class as well as the passing of the torch to the junior to be senior class.
“Class Day is to show the juniors what graduation will be like to prepare them for next year,” junior Kassidy Currence said.
Class Day began with the Procession, where the juniors congratulated the seniors as they made their way across the courtyard. As the ceremony progressed, class honors and awards were presented to the graduates and Science chair Doctor Lynn Martens gave the master teachers speech to the class, giving them advice on how to “calibrate their compasses”, as they live their lives outside the doors of Blue Valley Southwest. The senior class also presented a few members of the class of 2025, current kindergarteners.
The junior class was also in attendance at the ceremony. Junior class president Nick Edwards accepted the key to the school as the juniors will be the “leaders” of the school next year.
As the seniors prepared to leave high school and start their own lives, they parted their wisdom with the future senior class, offering insight on how to deal with senior and what it means to lead the school. As the classes before them did, the seniors left their pawprint on Southwest, leaving both their influence and their legacy on the student body.
