DIY Collegiate Burlap Wreath
Graduation season is here! Parties are happening every weekend and one of the best ways to show your school pride is through decorating. A wreath can spruce up any front door no matter if it’s for a graduation party or cheering on your favorite football team, here is an easy Do It Yourself (DIY) project that will only take a couple hours to complete and it looks professional.
What you’ll need:
30 Feet of 2 ½ inches of regular wired burlap ribbon
15 feet of 2 ½ inches red chevron wired burlap ribbon (or desired amount)
20 inch Box Style wreath frame
Hot glue gun
Wooden letters (optional)
Extra solid burlap for the bow (optional)
Steps:
- First you will take the chevron burlap ribbon and loosely weave it through the frame so it will come out in loops. The loops should stay in place for now because the ribbon is wired and stiff. You weave through each of the three wired rings on the frame and leave space to allow for the regular burlap to fill in. To weave through the frame you want to go through the middle, then the two outside rings.
- Then, you take your regular burlap ribbon to weave into the wreath just like you did in step 1. The reason we have 15 extra feet in this ribbon is because I wanted my wreath to have more brown and look fuller than the chevron. Use your same method as step 1 to weave to get your desired look.
- Now we want to secure the ends of the ribbon to the frame with the hot glue gun. Find your ends and wrap them around the frame and put a dab of glue to stay still. If you have areas of your frame that aren’t at full, shape your ribbon to create bigger loops or you can hot glue loops together to cover up the holes.
- Now we want to make the bow. Making the bow is just like tying your shoes. The only thing is you want to create a middle of the bow and wrap it around and secure with hot glue.
- Lastly, we have our letters to glue on. I spray painted my letters white and hot glued them to some of the burlap on the frame.
and….TA-DA!
Your wreath is finished and looks beautiful! Remember that you can choose any amount of burlap you want to get the desired look.
