A room full of sweaty people, vomit being spewed next to you, and listening to a ton of crude language doesn’t seem like a very fun evening. Originally I would agree and say that sounds awful, but now I think otherwise.
On Dec. 9, The Beautiful Bodies, Innerparty System, My Chemical Romance, and A Day to Remember came to Kansas City’s Midland Theater as a part of The Night the Buzz Stole XXMas concert. Tickets were $25 to insiders (like myself) and the event started at 7:00 p.m. It was a great method to get away from all the stress school has been piling on lately.
The Beautiful Bodies, whom I had not heard much about, opened up the show. The lead singer walked/danced onto the stage in a “Lady Gaga-esque” outfit. I’m talking a leotard with feathers. The cool part was was she was completely comfortable with herself on stage. Even cooler was the fact that their drummer had had an accident two days beforehand, so a replacement drummer learned all of their songs in just two days. He did a pretty incredible job too.
Next, Innerpartysystem went up, and that’s when things started to get crazy. All of their music is super easy to dance too, so people were swinging their arms wildly, jumping up and down and there was a whole lot of pushing. Needless to say, I lost my friends within a time span of about four seconds and wound up falling down, twice. The falls were well worth it though.
I thought Innerpartysystem was crazy, but A Day to Remember proved what that word actually meant. It was during this band I learned how to successfully avoid falling on top of gross sweaty guys. The best way to do this is find a friend and hold on to him or her for dear life. Also, in the event that someone starts vomiting next to you, I recommend you move, and move fast. Other than those two incidents, ADTR had an awesome set list and I sang/screamed along to all of their songs.
Last but certainly not least, the long-awaited for My Chemical Romance went on stage. The crowd finally calmed down a little bit for this performance because when MCR plays, you just have to listen. They played some of their well-known songs including “Teenagers,” and a few mellow ones like “Cancer.” Ironically enough, the lead singer smoked a cigarrette during that performance, which I found kind of humorous.
Despite all of the insane happenings at this concert, it was one of the best I’ve been to. So, when life gets stressful and you don’t know what to do, find some good friends, pick out a good band and hit up a concert. You’ll feel much better.
