Nothing can compare to attending a concert and “feeling” your favorite song. To clarify that, I don’t mean literally touching a speaker or one of the guitars. I’m referring to the excruciatingly loud volume that causes a pulse in your core. It’s not easy to describe, but those of you have attended a concert know exactly what I’m talking about.
On Saturday Sept. 25, some eardrum exploding definitely occurred as 96.5 The Buzz brought their annual Buzz Beach Ball concert to the Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone. Tickets ranged from $20 to the insiders of 96.5 and over $30 for everybody else.
The lineup included Anberlin, AM Taxi, Civil Twilight, Cake and the infamous Smashing Pumpkins. As a concert normally works, it started with the smaller bands and lead up to the main attraction.
Seating at this concert wasn’t really “seating.” Besides the few people who apparently think it’s okay to sit, everyone else stood up in front of the stage. During the smaller bands, not many people stood, but my friends and I found ourselves right in front of the stage.
AM Taxi and Civil Twilight did a good job keeping their audience involved — especially when AM Taxi performed a cover of “Painted Black,” because honestly, who doesn’t know or want to sing along to that song?
I had never heard of The Limousines, but after the great performance they gave, they have now found a spot on my pink iPod Nano. Their music is good to listen to when I attempt (the key word here is attempt) to stay focused on my homework.
Anberlin has been one of my favorite bands for over a year now. However, I’m a big fan of their older songs, and they unfortunately focused more on their new stuff. I understand they want people to buy their latest album, but the old music is still really good. Trust me, people will still buy older music.
Speaking of older music, I can say I was sorely disappointed with Cake. Maybe it was the fact that I was super tired, but Cake put me to sleep while they were playing. The only interesting thing about their performance was the drunk guy making obnoxious comments behind me.
Even though Cake put me to sleep, Smashing Pumpkins instantly woke me up. Their energy level was so high and the crowd was crazy. There was a fair-share of crowd surfers, but mostly loud and well-played music.
There’s nothing like escaping the stresses of school by going to a concert and forgetting it all. The convert overall helped me out in that sense. Not to mention, the chance to “feel” that music was well-worth it. Honestly, there’s really nothing like a concert.
